KOBI-TV/NBC5 and KOTI-TV/NBC2 is partnering with Safeway, AARP, US Bank and Care Oregon Advantage for the Help Us End Hunger food drive during November and December.
In an effort to help local food banks replenish their food supplies during the holidays, the Help Us End Hunger food drive will encourage people to purchase a specially prepared grocery bag for $8.26 from any Safeway store in Southern Oregon and $10 from any Safeway in Northern California. Also, people can donate non-perishable foods to food barrels located at local Safeway stores.
On December 3rd from 4pm-8pm, people are invited to stop by the Safeway store located at 3169 Crater Lake Highway in Medford to donate their non-perishable food items or purchase a specially prepared grocery bag. NBC5 News anchors will broadcast live from the store to introduce, on air, individuals and families that stop by to donate to this worthy cause.
“All donations and purchased food bags from this food drive will go to a local food bank. We really need your help this year. None of our neighbors should go hungry,” says Bob Wise, Vice President and General Manager of KOBI-TV/NBC5.
Food collections have started at all Safeway stores in our region and will continue through December 25th. Food banks are currently in need of canned meats, canned and boxed meals, peanut butter, canned or dried beans and peas, pasta and rice, canned fruits, and 100% fruit juice, no glass. All food donations and purchased pre-packed bags will go to local food banks.
