Medford, Ore -- As a present for their 90th birthdays, Bob and Winifred Hood are heading to the 2014 Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London.

For the Hoods the trip is just another chapter in the lives of two of the Medford area's most influential people.

At ninety years old most people are content to slow down.

"I got good genes, I exercise a lot and i know I eat well, I guess that's the answer," said Winifred Hood.

There's no slowing down Bob and Winifred Hood.

“I was quick, I get around the court," said Bob.

91 year old Bob is a Navy veteran and holds a special place in his heart for tennis.

"I was small, I couldn't play basketball, I couldn't play football, so I started playing a little tennis,” said Bob.

90-year-old Winifred, or 'Win' as she's affectionately called, comes from a family of Southern Oregon philanthropists and spent years on the Founder's Board at the Oregon Institute of Technology.

"I was there when it was started, and I knew the president and I knew all the presidents as they came along," said Winifred.

Winifred also helped to found and run the Favell Museum in Klamath Falls with her first husband.

Now, as a gift from their children, Bob and Win are heading to the hallowed grass courts of Wimbledon to watch the Tennis Championships in person.

"She had said to her daughter Ann, gee it would be fun to give Bob a present to go to Wimbledon, he's always wanted to do that," said Bob.

The trip to London, adding another check mark on a long list of adventures for Bob and Win.

"Winifred and i have enjoyed a wonderful marriage for the last ten years and we're going for another ten," said Bob.

Bob and Winifred went on their first date in 1946 only to reunite and marry 55 years later in 2003.

Current Oregon Tech President Chris Maples told NBC5 News today that “Winifred's generosity is the core of the endowment of the Oregon Tech foundation.”
