Ashland, Ore. --- The ban on medical marijuana dispensaries in Ashland has been lifted.
It happened at last night's city council meeting. It's good news for Michael Welch, who’s working on relocating his dispensary to 1796 Ashland Street at the intersection of Normal Avenue and Ashland Street, to comply with school buffer rules. Councilors also approved an ordinance about how a dispensary is run; deciding that the hours of operation will be from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
"It just makes sense, there's no reason to be open at 7 in the morning and there's no reason for a place like this to be open at 10 o’clock at night. Everything they passed makes sense," said Welch.
Welch says he plans to open the new location of his dispensary, Siskiyou Medical Supply this Saturday. The council also passed an ordinance regarding a tax on medical and recreational marijuana. The exact amount of the tax will be decided at the next council meeting.
