Prospect, Ore. -- The Jackson County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call on Saturday evening about a man who had sustained a knee injury after he had fallen while hiking in the Red Blanket Canyon near Prospect. The hiker, identified as 64 year-old Ken Wearstler from Central Point had attempted to crawl out on his own, but was unable due to the steep, mountainous terrain.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and members of Jackson County Search and Rescue responded to help. Just after midnight, Wearstler was able to make voice and flashlight contact. It took rescuers over four hours to get to Wearstler. An EMT in the search group helped stabilize Wearstler and they decided to wait for Jackson County Air Support to assist in the rescue due to the steep terrain.
Wearstler was safely transported to an area hospital and received treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery.
