A look at the biggest fires currently burning in our viewing area:

  • The "Big Windy" fire is a 20 acre wildfire ten miles west of Galice. That's just one of 24 fires started by last night's lightening storm in Josephine County.

The smoke that was visible over the Rogue Valley Friday evening was from the Whiskey Fire in the Umpqua National Forest. Officials tell NBC 5 that the "Buckeye" Fire is in the same area.

On the border of Josephine and Douglas County, in the Cow Creek Area:

  • 2 fires are burning more than 500 acres.
  • 2 of 52 lightening sparked fires in Douglas county.

On the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest west of Selma:

  • 45 acres are burning and the Bureau of Land Management reports the "Labrador" fire is growing.
