It's a golden start to the new year for a local family as they hit it big in the mega millions.
Riley Gunn of Wolf Creek was laid off and going back to school. He says he had a feeling he should buy a lottery ticket, so he picked up a one up at the lil' pantry market and deli in Merlin, just North of Grants Pass.
Originally, Gunn thought he had won $250,000 but soon realized he had purchased the Megaplier, quadrupling winnings and making the ticket worth one million dollars.
The family was able to collect their winnings, totaling $670,000 after taxes, in Salem last week and Gunn says he is planning on buying a home.
