Connecting with those behind bars at the Josephine county jail is about to get a little easier.
Friends and family members of inmates in the county jail will now be able to connect with them through the internet.
The county is now offering a new video visitation service. The services are provided by a program called Turnkey Corrections.
Family members of inmates can sign up for an online account for video chat sessions, as well as other features.
Currently you may deposit funds directly into an inmate's trust account and now may sign up to participate in online visiting with inmates at the Josephine County Adult Jail.
Online visitation is available from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily. Visits will be free of charge through Friday August 18, 2012 after which visits will cost only $0.35 per minute and last 15 minutes each, however family and friends can visit as frequently as the inmate is available.
Visitors must complete a registration process which involves three easy steps including using their computer camera to provide their government ID, take a photo of themselves and provide complete identity information.
Visitor approvals may take up to 4 days to process. Some restrictions may apply.
On www.inmatecanteen.com, visitors can test their computer and camera to ensure they have the latest updates necessary to visit from home.
If updates are needed, Inmate Canteen's system will guide them through the process to download these features safely and quickly.
For visitors who do not have a camera, they can be purchased on Inmate Canteen's website.
Plans for the future include having the option to: send care packages, purchase pre-paid phone cards, and send electronic messages to inmates.
Information about those programs will be put on the Sheriff's Office website as they become available.
