Ashland City Budget

Ashland's city budget could top 100 million dollars but much of the spending remains in limbo because the city council has not approved water and sewer rate hikes.

The new fiscal year begins on July 1.
Ashland's budget is expected to rise to 102.5 million dollars.
Although the council rejected an earlier proposal to increase water and sewer rates by 12.7 percent, they are expected to consider a smaller increase on Tuesday.

"There are improvements to the water system that we absolutely have to make. And the total package over the next 20 years is quite expensive," said Russ Silbiger.

Reports say water and sewer rates would have to double over the next 10 years to cover maintenance, upgrades and inflation.
