A Tulelake man is in jail on charges of attempted murder.
25 year old Josue Francisco Arias is accused of cutting his stepfather's throat with a knife Sunday night.
Tulelake Police Chief Tony Ross explains: "Officer was on routine patrol, observed a man running down the street with a knife, and all bloody."
The officer on duty was Misti Stradley. "He was in the middle of the road, and he, I could see that he was bloody, and I didn't notice that he had a knife until I pulled over and contacted him."
Chief Ross notes that the assault took place at a house just off of Main Street in Tulelake...
"She was able to determine that he had assaulted his stepfather with the knife, and that the stepfather was injured at another location." Ross added that police aren't releasing the name of the victim. "We would like to get our interviews completed prior to releasing that information."
Chief Ross says that the victim's injuries aren't life threatening. Ross adds that he has high praise for Officer Stradley...
"I'm very proud. She did a very good job."
Officer Stradley says it was all in a day's work...
"I wasn't scared. Not at all. No. It's part of the job - I just did what i was trained to do, and took care of the situation."
Josue Arias is on parole, and was out on early release at the time of his arrest.
It's believed that Arias was upset over the way his stepfather was treating his mother.
Arias is being held without bail at the Siskiyou County Jail.
