Residents in one Southern Oregon coastal hub could soon be facing big utility rate hikes and department consolidation.
It's all to help meet a balanced budget for the coming year there.
A proposed budget for the city of Brookings is bringing water and sewer rate hikes, as well as consolidation of emergency departments.
If the budget is approved, the average residential utility bill will increase by 6 dollars and 66 cents a month starting July 1.
The City Council will be meeting Thursday night to talk about specifics of the 2012-13 budget, which must be approved by June 30.
