Henderson, Colo. -- (KUSA) A Colorado second grader noticed kids at recess who had nobody to play with. So he decided to do something about it by making sure everyone had friends to play with on the playground.

Inspired from a second-grade student who had a "buddy bench" installed at his Pennsylvania elementary school last December, 7-year-old Ethan Thomas-Gonzales decided his school, Thimmig Elementary in Henderson, should have one too.

Here's how it works: if a student feels lonely and in need of a playmate at recess, they can go to the buddy bench. Another student would then come up and see if the student wanted to play.

"They go to this bench and become friends with any other kids that are there or other kids can then invite them to play with them," Ethan's mother Shandelle Thomas said.
