Phoenix, Ore. -- Medical marijuana supporters gathered signatures Saturday for a petition that would go against a recent temporary ban of dispensaries in Phoenix.

The City of Phoenix passed a 4 month moratorium against medical marijuana facilities March 3rd.

In response, volunteers collected signatures today aimed at a referendum which will halt the moratorium until the issue can be decided by ballot in September.

"We feel that the people should have a say in this. The Mayor thinks the people should have a say in this. So, we're in agreement there. Our method of having a say in it is to  put it on the ballot." said chief petitioner Steven Schulman.

Volunteers went around Phoenix neighborhoods and shopping centers.

They have until April 3rd to gather over 200 signatures.

People who live in the city and are registered to vote are eligible to sign the petition.
