Concealed handgun permits in Oregon have spiked eleven percent from last year and in Josephine county permits have nearly doubled.
The numbers don't lie. New and renewed, concealed hand gun permits are up across the entire state as county governments prepare for public safety cuts. At a time when Josephine County faces steep cuts to public safety, some residents I talked to say they are taking precautions. Former security officer Mike Palmer says he's not surprised to see more concealed permits. He has one too. It's doubled in the past year and the number of renewed licenses have stayed close to the same. While it's legal to openly carry a firearm in the state of Oregon, you need a permit to conceal one. Since the beginning of the year there have been 256 new permits issued in Josephine County and 207 renewed. in Oregon as a whole there are more than 150 thousand concealed gun permits. There have been 91 new permits in JOCO since April 1, 2012 alone.
