Fire season starts June 2nd

Medford, Ore. -- It's that time of year again. The sun's out, it's getting hot and that means fire season is here and it starts on Monday.

Brian Ballou with the Oregon Department of Forestry says we've reached a tipping point because we've had so many hot, dry days and it's looking like more of them are ahead of us.

Backyard burning and debris piles will be prohibited come Monday, June 2nd. Ballou says that most fires are caused by burning debris "Of the fires we've had in 2014, about 35 fires, a little more than half have been caused by escaped burn piles."

Ballou says burn barrels will still be allowed until the end of June, but only if you have a permit.

You can get them either through your local fire department or ODF.
