Homeowner chases and holds burglar until police arrive

Medford, Ore. -- A Medford homeowner catches a burglar in the act, chases him, and holds him until police arrive.

Medford police say that a suspect broke into a garage at a home in east Medford early Tuesday morning.

Police say Joseph Edward Bean was confronted by the homeowner during his second trip into the garage. Bean took off running and the homeowner chased him for over a quarter of a mile before catching him. The homeowner held him until police arrived.

Bean is in jail this morning; he's charged with burglary, 1st degree theft and unlawful  possession of heroin.

Police do not recommend pursuing suspects, because they may have weapons. But they did say that it in this case, a citizen's arrest worked out well.
