Grants Pass, Ore. -- Starting on Monday, April 14th, the Josephine County Sheriff's Department will have double the number of current deputies on patrol.
The new addition brings the patrol force to two.
The Board of Commissioners Tuesday approved the move which requires the use of backfill funds.
Backfill funds are typically used to fill temporary positions when someone is out sick.
Sgt. Ray Webb has been the department's lone deputy since a decline in federal timber payments forced the layoffs of nearly two-thirds of the department's 98 staff members in 2012.
Webb says he's looking forward to getting caught up on uninvestigated crime reports.
The new position is approved through June 30th.
