***UPDATE: As of 11pm Tuesday, the Goff Fire has grown to 14,480 acres and is 16% contained. Fire crews will work through the night to protect homes from catching fire. The growth potential for the Goff fire is high.***
Around 10:30 Tuesday morning, officials announced a mandatory evacuation around the area of Seiad Creek Road. They made their rounds, going door-to-door to roughly 85 homes.
Officials were issuing a final notice, to roughly 300 people whose homes are in danger of catching fire, to leave.
"It will probably reach the back of homes by this afternoon, or evening," said Assistant Sheriff Jim Betts with the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office.
The Goff fire is part of the Fort Complex fires south of Applegate Lake in Northern California.
As of the this posting, it has burned almost 13,000 acres. It continues to grow and officials said it's still only 15% contained.
Many residents have already packed up and left. Others are in the process.
"We're just doing what we can to make sure nothing burns up," said resident, Alonzo Jackson.
He said his home is just a few thousand feet away from the fire.
"We're just waiting, playing this waiting game," he said.
Road blocks have been set up to monitor who goes in and out. Once homeowners make a decision to leave, they won't be able to go back to their homes.
"From what i've heard, there's been looting. I'm staying," said Marty Driskell, who lives on Seiad Creek Road.
However, officials said they have a plan to reduce the potential looting.
"There's going to be 24-hour patrols in the area and that will make these folks feel safe while they're gone," said Michelle Carbonaro, Public Information Officer for the Interagency Management Team.
Residents said feeling safe won't be easy with the future still so uncertain.
People who are evacuating can go to two different places. They can go to Happy Camp or to the Siskiyou Golden Fairgrounds.
