When we arrived on the scene, police were still investigating an early morning crime on White Pine road in Hornbrook.

That's just over the Oregon, California border.

Investigators say 41 year old Steven Raumaker pulled out a shotgun and shot his friend.

"Were you shocked when you found out?" asked NBC 5's Larry Miller.

"Yeah, I didn't expect to see this coming," said Gerald Buckingham, a resident who lives close to where the shooting happened.

Investigators say Raumaker is now on the run.

He's considered armed and dangerous and wanted for attempted murder in the shooting of his friend who has yet to be named.

Police tell NBC 5 news the victim was brought to Fairchild Medical Center in Yreka.

At the time of the interview, officials told us the victim was in fair but stable condition.

Police and residents confirm Raumaker has had several run-ins with the law and could be out on parole.

"He's kind of a good guy but with this happening my opinion has change of him," said Buckingham.

Police from all over Northern California and even Oregon are searching for the suspect.

"The suspect could be in the Yreka area, he could be in Hornbrook area, and certainly there's a possibility he could be in Shasta County," said Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey.

The 41 year old suspect is said to be driving a blue, grey 2006 Toyota Sienna Minivan.
