Oregon's ban on same-sex marriage goes before federal judge

Medford, Ore. -- Oregon's ban on same-sex marriage will go before a federal judge this week.

A lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon would remove the state's marriage ban. Local media reports that critics of the ban say it unconstitutionally discriminates against gays and lesbians, while supporters of the ban say same-sex marriage goes against the traditional definition of marriage.

Oral arguments are scheduled for Wednesday at the U.S. District court in Eugene and a local Vigil for the Freedom to Marry will be held at the Jackson County Courthouse Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m.
