Pit bull puppies looking for home

Grants Pass, Ore. -- A Southern Oregon organization that helps homeless pets took in a female pit bull hours before she gave birth. Now, they're looking for homes for the eight puppies.

The director of Tail Waggers Rescue, Maria Modica, said the non-profit supplies food and pays for medical care for homeless dogs from Grants Pass to Ashland.

Jennifer Dowse, a woman who lives on the streets in Grants Pass, said Modica is very well known in the homeless community.
The 24-year-old doesn't have much, but she does have her pit bull named Precious.

"I probably wouldn't be here to this day, because I can't live without my dog," Dowse said.

When Precious went into labor Monday, Dowse didn't know what to do. But then she remembered the organization that she said has helped many dogs in the homeless community.

"Seeing people with their dogs begging for food, it just lit a fire under me," Modica said.

And when Modica got the call from Dowse she knew she had to act quickly. She picked up the pair and set them up in a motel room.

"If it wasn't for her my dog would have had the puppies in the dirt," Dowse said.

A few hours later, Precious gave birth to eight healthy pit bull puppies.

But the puppies journey isn't over. They need a foster home until they're eight weeks old and can be adopted. Or else they will end up on the streets.

Modica said she'll pay for food and their shots. If you're interested in helping you can call Modica at (541)362-1663. You can also connect with her on FaceBook https://www.facebook.com/TailWaggersRescue
