A new phone scam has been reported by Pacific Power customers in Oregon and Washington. The scammer's call you and say you are about to be disconnected for non payment... they then will ask you to make an immediate payment by credit card or give you a special number to call back.
The scammer's have also been directing customers to purchase a pre-paid card and to call back with the card's code.
Pacific Power officials say this is not their practice and they will always have your account number on hand if they do call. Regardless, if yous suspect the call is phony, they say you can ask the caller to call back from Pacific Power's published number.
Authorities say pay close attention to the details if you get this call. Write down any contact information, then call police. And most importantly, do not give them your credit card or checking information.
