Pilot Program

A pilot program in Jackson County has helped keep more families together, that's according to state officials. The model here, working so well, the program is gearing up to go statewide.
Oregon bill 964, passed last June, and it's designed to take potential foster care children and place them in a monitored home with their biological families. Counseling is available to help re-connect bonds and give parents a chance to overcome addiction.

"The result was that we dropped the number of kids in Jackson County and in foster care by 50 percent, 50 percent! And they didn't come back in the system. it's the right approach to dealing with this, " said Sen. Alan Bates.

Senator Bates also says  if the program is as successful on a statewide level, it could go to a nationwide level within the next 5 years.
