Grants Pass, Ore. -- Police are investigating multiple car break ins at Phagan's Grants Pass College of Beauty and students are watching their vehicles a little more carefully.

Two of the break-ins happened in the middle of Friday afternoon. One of the victims, Senior Krysti Norris, said she wasn't away from her car for more than five minutes before going back out and seeing a man walk away with her backpack and purse. She said by the time she realized what he was doing he had run across the street and jumped in a car.

"I tried to chase him but by the time my instincts kicked in it was too late," Norris said.

The burglar also smashed the window of another vehicle and took off with up to $1,600 of makeup. The victim, freshman Sharaya Atchison, said her car was parked facing the busy street of Agness Ave.

"I was really disappointed and I kind of felt violated. I don't understand what it takes for a person to do something like that," Atchison said.

Police said they continuously see crimes like this, but the time and place these break-ins occurred made this case a bit unusual.

"It's a pretty populated area so this is pretty risky for people to go through and start breaking windows," Lieutenant Jim Hamilton said.

Police warned about leaving valuables sitting out in your car. A lesson two of the students had to learn the hard way.

"He took my backpack that had all my books and everything I've been working on for seven months and everything that I need to graduate in 13 days," Norris said.

Police do have a description of the car and are asking people to watch out for it. They said it's a 1990 Subaru that is either dark green or burgundy.
