Portland, Ore. -- (KGW) A 4-year-old boy died Wednesday evening after falling from a third-story window in North Portland.
He fell about 7:15 p.m. at the Miraflores Apartments, 8925 N. Newell Ave.
The boy was rushed to Randall Children's Hospital where doctors could not save his life.
A preliminary information indicates the boy fell through a screened window, according to Portland Police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Trauma counselors were called to the apartment to help distraught people.
Tips for Increasing Window Safety for Children
Keep play away from windows
Only allow windows to open 4 inches, and install window stops and/or window guards that can be removed by an adult in an emergency
Lock windows when not in use
Open windows from the top and use a window stop for the bottom
Prevent climbing. Keep furniture and anything a child can climb on away from windows
Actively watch children near windows
