Thousands lose power after alleged drunk driving accident

Medford, Ore. -- A 19-year-old was arrested after racing at speeds of nearly 90 miles an hour before crashing into a power pole and taking out power for thousands of Medford residents.

Medford police said that just after midnight Saturday Jose Uribe was racing another vehicle northbound of Springbrook Road when he lost control north of Cedar Links Drive and crashed into a tree and a power pole.

Power was knocked out for 1,700 Pacific Power customers for about seven hours.

Police said that Uribe had a broken wrist but was otherwise okay.

He was arrested on a number of charges including DUII and reckless driving.
