Tuesday night the Ashland City Council removed the word "unlawful activity" from an ordinance which governs who can be granted a business license.
The move was to put the city in-line with Oregon State law. March 3, 2014 the Oregon Health Authority will begin taking applications for those seeking to register and operate a medical marijuana dispensary.
Meanwhile, Ashland residents remain mixed on the idea of who show be allowed to run them and where such outfits should be located.
The OHA has incorporated rules in that prohibit such operations within a thousand feet of a school and the City of Ashland will look to the Planning Department to conduct further research and make a recommendation. Still, many of the pedestrians around town say the government should end the decades long prohibition on cannabis which remains Federally illegal. While some small downtown businesses say they're against allowing any marijuana dispensary in town.
