Ashland, Ore. -- To so many in Ashland Salvatore Pippa was known as Sal. Known as a good friend, and known as the life of the party. But for his sister's Jenny and Michelle, Sal was their beloved brother.

"Sal was a goofball. He loved to make people laugh, smile,  he was very generous. He loved to play the guitar, he loved basketball, he loved his family," said sister, Jenny Pippa.

Pippa died Wednesday night while driving the streets he grew up on. Ashland Police said he took a turn too fast and hit a light pole. His girlfriend was in the front seat and Jenny and Michelle said he would never put anyone's life at risk.

"You know my brother has never driven 70 mph on Siskiyou Boulevard and we've lived here most of our life...and ...no."

Pippa's sisters said their brother, the former basketball star, and guitar player loved his two daughters most of all. And that to them he was so much more than just a brother.

"We lost our father a long time ago and he was a piece of that. And now we lost that and so it's a huge piece to our family that our dynamic is completely different."

The Ashland High School graduate leaves behind a mother, eight siblings and 20 nieces and nephews.

The Pippa's have started a donations account with Bank of America under the name, Michelle Pippa.
