New tonight, Ashland residents are getting an early start, preparing for fire season.

More than 100 cars pulled into the Lincoln Elementary School parking lot for the 1st annual Firewise clean-up day. People threw away yard debris that could fuel fires. Organizers say it's an important preventative step before it's too late.

"It's really important to get ready for fire season now, it's FireWise week, it's our chance to be ready for the fire season before it starts.
This is not the kind of work you can do when embers and smoke are in the air," said Ali True.
