A forest thinning project in the Ashland Watershed on hold since 2009 now has grant funding to move forward.
Thanks to a partnership with the Ashland Forest Resiliency Project. the Nature Conservancy was able to channel more than $300,000 into thinning the Winburn Parcel.
Columbia Helicopter, already on the Ashland Resiliency Project, is being ontracted to do the work.
Former city councilor Eric Navickas has a pending lawsuit against the Resiliency Project, and may seek an injunction if large timber is logged for commercial purposes.
If the injunction is filed and granted, it could also block the Winburn Parcel Project. Navickas says that Columbia Helicopter possibly wont continue on the 160 acre contract if the larger project they are on is haulted.
