The Ashland City Council has approved to redesign the downtown plaza.

The new plan will replace lawn areas with shrubs and plants, as well as low concrete walls.

More trees will be planted, and a few will be replaced over time.

The estimated cost is resting around $170,000.

The work is scheduled to begin in January 2013.
