Three men were rescued and are doing fine Monday after their fishing vessel sunk Friday afternoon, said U.S. Coast Guard officials.

11 miles off the coast of Crescent City at 2:46 p.m. Friday Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay received a garbled mayday signal from a distressed vessel named the West Wind, according to Coast Guard officials.

Using two different communication towers, the Coast Guard was able to narrow down the location of the vessel and a coast guard helicopter took flight located an inflatable life raft at 4:25 p.m. — almost two hours after the mayday call.

No word yet on what caused the boat to sink.
