The cross, a symbol of peace and hope for Zion Lutheran Church in West Medford is now wounded from a fire that broke out at 2 A.M. Friday.
But now the question is, was it an act of hate crime?
Investigators are trying to figure it out and have even notified The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF.
If this is indeed hate crime police say the arsonist could face additional charges for intimidation.
Parishioners of Zion Lutheran say they're glad not too much damage was done and they will keep the church open for service. However, it could take up to six month to repair all the damages.
