Late Tuesday evening, a fire in gold beach at the Soroptomist building on Caughell street severed a communications cable that cut off most telephone and data service to parts of Gold Beach, including the Curry County Sheriff’s Office.
Administrative non-emergency phone lines into and out of the sheriff’s office were down most of Tuesday night.

As of 6 A.M. Wednesday morning, crews began work to repair the lines.

Emergency 911 service was restored quickly and transferred to Brookings Police Department, where those calls will continue to be answered until redirected back to Curry County sheriff’s office.

All repairs are expected to be accomplished sometime Wednesday morning.

Until then, citizens are asked to avoid making non-emergency calls to the sheriff’s office while repair work continues.
