Grants Pass, Ore.-- For 13 years Dimmick Tower has stood abandoned and structurally unstable.

Thursday, Josephine County Commissioner, Simon hare hosted a Town Hall meeting to discuss a $1.5 million dollar plan to demo the former Josephine Memorial Hospital by the end of this year.

Plans for the demolition were discussed at the meeting.

Commissioner hare said the old hospital's roof has not been repaired in a decade and there's water damage to the inside of the building.

Hare also discussed potential risk the demo can poses.

"All potential health risks posed by demo'ing are going to be extensively monitored. DEQ and EPA are going to be overseeing the entire project," said Hare.

The money for the demolition project will come partially from a grant and from an Oregon business loan.

Hare also  mentioned what would be put there once the old hospital is gone.

A retirement center, office buildings, and new housing are all on the table.
