Medford, Ore. -- A fire broke out at a duplex home early Thursday morning on Bryant Street.

The call came in at about 2:30 a.m. Medford police were the first to arrive on scene and Medford Fire Battalion Chief Ken Goodson said the fire was held in check by a neighbors garden hose until they arrived.

There is significant damage to the home. Goodson says both occupants made it safely out of their homes; one was transported to the hospital. No serious injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Goodson wants to emphasize that it's important to have working smoke detectors in your home.
