Three homes are damaged and one is destroyed after a fire tears through a Jacksonville home, taking the family dog with it and leaving the homeowners with a major loss.
The fire was initially reported as a smoke investigation called in by some neighbors who woke to loud popping noises. Firefighters soon learned the devastation, they were about to confront.
Fifty-foot flames were reportedly seen nearly two miles away.
While the flames grew, the fire spread, igniting massive trees in the semi-rural neighborhood just outside of the historic downtown.
The resident's made it out of the home in time, but they're still missing two cats. Below is a description.
Goes by "leek-leek" (sp) named kahlekilia (sp)
and an orange tabby named Sammy. The golden retriever who died was named Billy.
Talking with family or friends of the three homes that were damaged or lost, none took my offer for public support. As fire investigators continue to search for a cause, insurance companies and set to inspect and assess the damages.
