Firefighters Donating Extra Food to Local Pantries

When the wildfires in Southern Oregon broke out last month, thousands of people came forward and helped donate what they could to those working the lines.

And now, firefighters from the Douglas Complex fire are giving back to those in need.

NBC-5's Roma Villavicencio went to the food bank where 3 trucks full of food were donated by the firefighters.

Roma?

That's right Kyle, today was the second day of food distribution from those firefighters at Reaching our Community Food Pantry

Firefighters from the Douglas Complex received so many donations that Ruth Johnsen with ROC says they had an extra 20,000 pounds of food to donate to the food bank.

"To get frozen potatoes, eggs, things that we usually don't get its really exciting."

Johnsen says that the thousands of pounds of food are enough to feed 4,000 people in a month. She says they will be getting more food from the fires near Galice.

The food bank distributes food donations on Thursday and Saturday.
