Friend Accidently Shot

Witnesses tell NBC5 a gun demonstration went horribly wrong this afternoon, sending one person to the hospital and leaving the
shooter injured.

The man holding the guns name, according to Sheriff's, is James Record. Today I spoke with him just minutes after the shooting. He appeared visibly upset and shook up.

"It went through his hip and into his stomach, but it didn't come out," the man who shot the gun, James Record, shows us.

Shortly after noon Sheriff's got a call: we're told three employees at this motorcycle shop on Table Rock Road were involved in what is currently called an 'accidental shooting.'

"When we got here we had one male that was down on the ground," says Deputy Sheriff Phil Cicero.

According to officials, employee James Record was showing another employee how to load his new .40 caliber pistol when he accidently discharged it into the abdomen of a third employee, bystander.. and Record says friend - Howard Jenks.

"The individual who shot the gun got some muzzle blast on his hand," continues Cicero.
"I shot my hand right here," says
Record.

At this point no charges are filed.
"We'll send a report to the District Attorney's office and they'll determine if there was any wrecklessness and base it off of that," reports Cicero.

Jenks is at the hospital, his condition unknown. Authorities believe his injuries are not life threatening.

"I hope he'll be ok, of course," says Record.

Record says he wished he'd bought a handgun with a safety mechanism.

Gun sales personnel tell us at least half of handguns now-a-days do not have that physical safety.
