Homeless dogs and cats throughout Jackson and Josephine counties are looking for a home this weekend at Medford's Pet Smart. It's their 31st annual adopt a pet weekend.

The animals come from various shelters throughout Southern Oregon and Northern California. Many of the shelters don't have enough room for all the animals in their care.

"If we don't get them adopted, then there's not going to be that money there to keep the shelters going and that would mean more animals going down because they can't get adoptions."

Forty dogs and 25 cats are up for adoption. A fee of 75 to 150 dollars applies per dog or cat depending on their size and age. The money raised goes back to help shelters.

The adoption event ends Sunday at 6pm at Petsmart in Medford on Crater Lake Ave.
