Grants Pass kidnapping suspect arrested

The Grants Pass Police department say they responded to a report of a burglary at the Grants Pass Wal-mart at around 8am Thursday morning, but quickly learned it was a case of kidnapping and robbery.

During their investigation officers discovered the suspect forcibly entered the elderly womans' home. The suspect reportedly ransacked the victims' home and then forced the victim to drive him to the Wal-Mart where he dropped her off in the parking lot and drove off, abandoning the victims' car in another portion of the parking lot.

Grants Pass Police detectives and officers coordinated to collect surveillance video from business surrounding the Wal-Mart and were able to identify the suspect as 21 year-old Craig Allen Cruz of Grants Pass.

Police were able to locate the suspects vehicle shortly before 3pm at the Purple Parrot on SE J Street where they arrested Cruz along with several others detained.

Cruz is currently charged with burglary 1, robbery 1, kidnapping 1, unathorized use of a motor vehicle, and assault 4.

The Grants Pass Police department say the investigation is on-going. Anyone with information pertaining to this case is asked to call (541) 450-6260.
