Hate Your Job?

Do you like your job? A new poll indicates 7 out of 10 Americans actually hate their work.

We went out to see what you had to say. Whether too afraid to share their true feelings on camera, or simply being honest, most people we spoke with say: "I like my job," says Andy Martinez from Orange County.
"I love my job," comments Lynn Barrus of Central Point.
"I do like my job," remarks Spencer Higginson also from Central Point.

However, Higginson says when he worked as a dishwasher for a small diner he wasn't happy: "When I had one little problem the boss got upset with me... so I lined something else up and quit."

A new Gallup Poll states 7 out of 10 employees dislike, and even hate, their jobs.

"When people say they hate their jobs, most of the time it's about a bad boss," Nikki Jones of Express Employment Professionals.
As a result, she says:
"Disengaged workers are costing companies a fortune."

Five hundred and fifty billion dollars each year, to be exact, in lost productivity. "If they feel they are stuck in a place, they have the bad boss," continues Jones, " they really should take some time to go to their boss to ask if there's something they can do to enhance their job and make it more enjoyable.

She also suggest try moving to a different position within a company. Or if your trying to break into a different field be willing to start at entry level.

Ultimately, of course, if you hate your work you can always do what Higginson did with his dishwashing job -quit, but in this economy, he cautions: "Don't burn bridges before you find something else."
Plus, he says it's usually all about perspective. "Any job can be fun. I worked concrete  this summer and that's not fun, but we made it fun," He says he's simply grateful for the work.
