Medford Police found the woman who they say fled the scene of a fatal accident Monday morning. She was arrested, treated at the hospital and charged.
34 year-old Leta Jean Schroeder was arrested at her husbands home in White City a day after police say she fled the scene of a deadly accident. Monday around 3:44 am seven men in a work van were hit by a ford pickup. Four of the seven men were ejected from the vehicle. One of them died, one was last in critical condition and two others were in serious but stable condition. the remaining three escaped with minor injuries.
In the courtroom, Schroeder held her head in her hand while the judge read her charges but when her bail amount was set, she smirked. Jackson County Court Judge, Tim Barnack set bail at one million dollars. When he asked if Schroeder could come up with the $100,000, she replied, "I don't think so, no." with a smile. She told the judge she might have been able to afford it a year ago when her husband had a large sum of money. Without further knowledge of her financial situation the bail was set at three million dollars. Deputy District Attorney Nicholas Geil says the bail is to keep her from skipping out after she had already fled the scene once before.
Pretrial has been set.
