Ashland, Ore. -- Boaters and fisherman got a start Saturday on Hyatt Lake for the begining of trout fishing season.

Despite the brisk weather several people were out on their boats today trying to catch fish.

But Bureau of Land Management employees say this season, things are a little different at the lake.

"Precipitation this year is 40% of average. The lake level is about 48% of normal capacity, so we're down a little bit and we're hoping we get some of this late may ran and snow," said Zach Millon of BLM.

Million says people need to be careful in their boats because of the lower water levels.

He also says despite the water levels, there is not a shortage of trout or bass in the lake.
