Josephine County Asked To Approve May Tax Increase

Josephine county residents will be asked again this May to approve a tax increase to close the 12 million dollar gap in the county's budget.

The board of commissioners is drafting a new proposal that includes a tax rate increase of $1.48  per $1,000 in assessed property value.

While it does not completly negate the deficit, 9 million dollars would be raised for the county.

Last year, a federal subsidy for timber counties expired, severely cutting law enforcement services in Josephine county and voters chose not to raise their taxes to cover that deficit.
