Lean Water Year Possible for Klamath

Despite a wet spring, farmers on the Klamath project could still be facing a lean water year.

Just a few days after water was released from Upper Klamath Lake to farmers, the US Bureau of Reclamation released their 2012 operations plan.

That plan does *not* call for full deliveries of irrigation water.

"We're only forecast from the natural resources conservation service to receive approximately 78 percent of our historical inflows." says Kevin Moore, US Bureau of Reclamation

Farmers have two factors in their favor this year.

Spring rains have helped to boost water levels on Upper Klamath Lake and Klamath Basin mountain snow pack levels are at 106 percent of average for this date.
