Energy Motor Gets Provisional Patent

One Medford man says he's invented something completely groundbreaking. It's a machine that creates electric energy from a small number of particles straight out of the air. NBC 5's Kyle Aevermann reports.

The Ristau Motor, named after its inventor Judson Ristau takes heat from the ground. Produced by the earth and converts it into energy, Ristau says can power just about anything.

"Everybody's looking for the answer or the next option but what they don't know it exists. It's out there. It's just something that has to go out onto the market," says Ristau.

The motor reacts with just the smallest amount of heat energy and Ristau says it could power an entire neighborhood. The concept has been in the making for nearly four years and just last week Ristau was approved for a provisional patent. That ultimately gives him one more year to work on the motor or sell his idea for manufacturing.

"It's basically a low budget way of putting a marker down to say, I've got this idea, and no one can can steal it, and then go from there."

Ristau's current model cost him nearly $13,000 to build. But that's just a small fraction of the nearly $300,000 he hopes to raise to take it to the next level.

"This is something that is going to happen, it's just a matter of time," he said.
