Medford PD responds to 200 calls for one block so far this year

Medford, Ore. -- Medford Police have received more than 200 calls for help this year alone to one particular block. Police said that numer is high compared to other parts of the city.

The area in question is the Greyhound and RVTD station on Front Street between 10th and 8th.

Earlier this week a security guard was assaulted and Thursday police said a man was charging his cell phone, walked away, then came back to find it missing.

Police said when the phone was called, it rang in a nearby person's pocket.

"A lot of the desperate, brazen, ridiculous crimes you hear about are people that are under the influence, are not thinking clearly and they want to get their fix for the day," said Lieutenant Mike Budreau with the Medford Police Department.

Police said there's likely more criminal activity around the block because there is a lot of traffic and travelers from in and out of the area.
