Today -- in hopes of preventing prescription drug abuse, the Medford Police Department hosted their annual drug take-back.
People were invited to get rid of any unnecessary prescription and over the counter drugs.
Officials say turning in leftover or unused medication is the only safe disposal method.
"You don't want to throw them in the toilet, you don't want to throw them in trash cans. Folks can go through your trash cans and retrieve lots of different things, being data, person information, and prescription drugs."
If you missed today's event, the department has a permanent drug take-back box inside the lobby of city hall.
It's open to the public 7 days a week.
