The viral trend has swept the world. People are doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and nominating others to do it as well in an attempt to spread awareness about the disease and raise money for ALS research. ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It's also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. According to the National Library of Medicine, ALS is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.

There are a number of organizations that support people with ALS and are trying to find a cure for the disease. One of them is the ALS Association. Donations are accepted at this website: http://www.alsa.org/donate/
