'Paws for a Cause' hit the track Saturday, raising awareness and money for the Medford Police Department's canine units.

North Medford senior Shyonna Leach put the event together as part of her senior project.

The fundraiser at North Medford High started at 8 am.

Local residents showed up to give their dogs a little exercise and make donations that will go to purchase ballistics vests for Medford's four legged officers...

Something Leach says is very expensive but much needed.

"Dog vests range from $700 to $2000 each and my goal was to at least get one. So my goal was to at least get one and at least raise as much as I could working toward that goal," said Leach.
